Itinerary

Mombasa Exploration: City Culture & Haller Park Safari
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM The Grand Coastal Circuit: History, Shopping, and Wildlife
Morning (9:00 AM - 11:30 AM): Old Town Immersion & History
The tour begins with a guided walk through Old Town Mombasa. This section of the city still holds colonial architectural influences, reflecting a rich heritage of Asian, Arab, and European influences. You will walk through the streets, with your guide highlighting the town's history, including that some buildings have been standing for centuries.
Focus: Bring your good camera to take pictures and mark some of the best cafes for your next trip. You can interact with the locals and hit them up for handmade souvenirs.
Late Morning (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM): Landmark Sightseeing & Vibrant Markets
Next, you will go sightseeing, starting with the iconic Mombasa Elephant Tusks (Mapembeni) on Moi Avenue. The famous tusks have been a town's symbol for years, forming an 'M' shape for Mombasa. This famous landmark deserves your attention, and it would be a waste not to take a selfie! You will also visit some of the many markets scattered around the town. Mombasa markets have much to offer, from hand-crafted souvenirs to amazing fish and meats and even an array of fruits and spices.
Shopping Tip: Most tourists cannot leave without trying the traditional coconut beverage 'madafu,' which you will find in fresh fruit and vegetable markets. Plus, ensure you get hand-woven baskets and authentic handmade Kenyan jewelry featuring beads and handpicked seashells.
Lunch Break (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM): Rest & Local Flavors
A scheduled break for lunch (not included unless specified) will allow you to relax and try some local Swahili cuisine before the final activity. Your guide will recommend an authentic local dining spot.
Afternoon (2:00 PM - 4:30 PM): Haller Park, The Ecological Success
And lastly, you will head to Haller Park, a scenic nature park that proves second chances are important. This park was once a wasteland quarry, but a little love and time turned it into an ecological park, welcoming multiple visitors per day. You will get to interact with nature throughout your visit. Expect various thriving plant life, including trees you do not see daily, like the baobab and eucalyptus. You will also interact with the friendly Rothschild giraffes at the viewing platform while peaking at the famous hippos (Sally and Potty) and Nile crocodiles in the water.
Wildlife: Look for the giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, giant Aldabra tortoises, and over 160 bird species. This trip is ideal for kids! Your day will end with the trip back to your accommodations, ready to take on a beach day.
