Safari Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi to Amboseli National Park (Approx. 4-5 hours)
Morning (7:00 AM)
Departing from Nairobi, your road journey begins via the Mombasa highway toward the south. Travel time is approximately 4 to 5 hours. You will pass through towns like Emali before turning onto the final dirt sections leading to the park.
Afternoon
Arrive at the park gate, check into your safari lodge/camp, and have lunch. After a short rest, embark on your first Afternoon Game Drive.
Focus: Amboseli is famous for its large tusked elephant herds often seen bathing in the swamps. Keep an eye on the horizon for the perfect view of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Evening
Return to the lodge/camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2 Full Day Amboseli Exploration & Observation Hill
Morning
Start with an Early Morning Game Drive as the sun rises over Kilimanjaro (weather permitting). This is the best time for predator sightings and photography. You will traverse diverse habitats, including acacia woodland and marshy springs.
Mid-Day Activity
Head to Observation Hill, a vantage point offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the park, including the swamps, the plains, and the towering mountain backdrop. It's one of the few places you can alight from the vehicle.
Wildlife: Look for African buffalo, lions, giraffes, zebras, and numerous water-associated bird species.
Afternoon
Continue with a final extensive afternoon game drive, seeking out the quieter corners of the park. Return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.
Day 3 Amboseli to Tsavo West National Park (Approx. 2-3 hours)
Morning
After breakfast, depart Amboseli and drive east towards Tsavo West National Park. The journey between the two parks is relatively short (2-3 hours), allowing you to maximize activities in Tsavo.
Mid-Day & Afternoon
Arrive at Tsavo West, check into your selected accommodation, and have lunch. The afternoon features a visit to the geological wonders of the park:
Tsavo Highlights: Visit Mzima Springs for submerged hippo and fish viewing in the observation tank, and explore the stark, dramatic landscape of the Shetani Lava Flow.
Evening (Optional Activity)
Return to the lodge or opt for a unique Night Game Drive (if staying in a conservancy like Ziwani) to spot nocturnal animals like aardwolf, genet, and bush babies.
Day 4 Tsavo West to Nairobi (Approx. 5-6 hours)
Morning
Enjoy an early breakfast. Depending on your flight schedule, take a brief Game Drive en route to the main gate to exit the park.
Mid-Day (Approx. 8:30 AM Departure)
Begin the long road journey back to Nairobi via the main Nairobi-Mombasa highway (A109). A morning departure is crucial to avoid late-afternoon city traffic.
Logistics Note: The full drive back to Nairobi is approximately 5 to 6 hours. Expect to arrive in the city between 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM.
Afternoon
You will be dropped off at your hotel or directly at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) for your onward flight, concluding your journey with the memories of East Africa's iconic landscapes and wildlife.

  1. Best Time to Visit: The dry season (June to October) is ideal for wildlife viewing, as animals gather around water sources. However, these parks are accessible year-round.
  2. Health and Safety: Ensure you have the necessary vaccinations and carry anti-malarial medication. Travel insurance is highly recommended.
  3. Packing Essentials: Comfortable safari clothing, a good camera, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
